An official announcement has yet to come, but details of the next Sidekick are beginning to leak out. While these details are still unofficial, they are coming courtesy of a Microsoft job posting and a recent survey.
So far, what we can tell you is that it looks like the upcoming Sidekick, the LX 2009 will be dubbed the Blade and feature a 3.2-inch WVGA display, a microSD card slot, 3.2-megapixel camera and come with a slew of pre-installed social networking and blogging applications. As for the social networking apps, those look to include Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube. The blogging side includes a publishing, editing, and management tool as well as photo uploading to Photobucket and video uploading to both MySpace and Photobucket.
Other goodies include the standard e-mail, IM and SMS experience along with support for Outlook/Exchange sync. Finally, as per the job posting, (which stated; “seeking a talented NetBSD software developer interested in helping Danger (a subsidiary of Microsoft) ship the next generation of Danger’s Sidekick platform.”) it seems that the Sidekick may be running the open source NetBSD operating system.
